We had been planning this trip to
Washington for a few months so we were super excited that the day had finally come. We flew out real early on
Kendall’s birthday hoping she would sleep through the flight. In reality, it didn’t go as smoothly as hoped but oh well.
Once our flight landed in
Seattle, we made our way over to Woodland Park Zoo with Grandma Deighton, Crystal, and Renae. I think
Kendall had a pretty good time looking at all the animals. Her favorite was most likely the monkeys/gorillas. They were pretty active and she would point and smile at them as they moved around.

After the zoo, we went home to Grandma and Grandpa Deighton’s house up in Sedro-Woolley for a big family dinner and birthday party for
Kendall.
I felt bad because you could tell that
Kendall was kind of out of it from her long day but she perked right up once she could eat some cake and ice cream. She was a big fan, just like her mama:)
Throughout the week we tried to keep really busy because we had a big list of things we wanted to do. Matt went shooting with his friend Mike, he went fishing with his dad, we visited his grandparents in
Oak Harbor, we went 4-wheeling by the river, and we spent a day walking around LaConner. In LaConner we found some pretty neat shops including a glass blowing place. Matt got super excited so we took a bunch of pictures!

While in
Washington,
Kendall had a run-in with my flat iron. I was being stupid and was doing my hair in the living room where
Kendall was currently barricaded. I put it down and turned away and within seconds
Kendall had grabbed it and burned her little hand.

Oh man, I felt absolutely horrible. I knew exactly what had happened the moment she started screaming. (In my pathetic defense, I never had to think of this situation before since our entire bathroom at home is gated off to
Kendall.) Anyway, it burned her left hand, the tip of the middle finger and the 2 top sections of her ring finger. She took it like a champ though. She, of course, cried for a good chuck right after it happened but went back to doing her normal things without fussing much at all. Now, they are 90% healed up and she is doing great.
We also worked on a few projects in
Washington taking advantage of Grandpa’s sweet shop and all of his tools. We made a Kendall-sized mop to go along with a Kendall-sized broom we bought. We got the idea when we visited Matt’s grandparents who have a child-sized mop that
Kendall refused to put it down. So we ground down a wooden stick to size and used white yarn and copper wire to secure the mop portion.
Kendall loves it!
I worked on making some wooden-block-things I found off of pinterest. We cut down some wood with a table saw and I painted them just the way I wanted.
I don’t have any pictures of the finished project but here was my inspiration.
I also made these pumpkin books, also found off pinterest. We found these old hymnals in a ”free” box, pulled off the covers, and cut them in the shape of a pumpkin with a band saw. Again, I don’t have a picture of my finished project but this is the idea.
Once we got back to Utah, we threw another little birthday party for Kendall with our friends and family here. It was fun. We got to see a lot of people we hadn’t seen in a long time. I made
Kendall a little Elmo cake and a bunch of cookie monster cupcakes since she’s a fan of Sesame Street:)
